First For Firth

With two “practice starts” under her belt Firth ran a professional race to win today at cold Laurel.  Even when the inside horse started coming over on her she kept straight and battled through to win nicely.  Congratulations to joint owners Glenangus Farm and Cash Is King. Photo by Jim McCue

Two At Tampa

Both of our runners at Tampa today won their races which was very exciting.  First Scholar Athlete, in a very competitive $100,000 optional claiming race won by a photo finish nose and then Hawana, who almost unseated her jockey in her last race managed to hold on to Ashley Castrenze today to win her race.  […]

Soglio

Pronounced “Solio” with a silent ‘g’ according a lady who saw him recently who sings Italian opera!   Previously Stakes placed he won his second race yesterday at the new Gulfstream meet.  Congratulations to owner/ breeder Flaxman Holdings.

Almond Roca Wins Second Race, First Stake

After running fifth in her first Stakes debut just over a month ago at Laurel Park, Almond Roca tried again at Tampa today and proved far the best to win by nine and and quarter lengths in the Sandpiper Stakes.  Bred to sprint by Speightstown out of a Holy Bull mare it was a lovely […]

Peach Of A Gal

Third race, first start on the grass, the surface made a huge difference for Peach Of A Gal today at Tampa.  You have to try these things if the first isn’t working!  She’s by Curlin out of a Polish Numbers mare, both of whom were winners on the dirt so one would imagine Peach would […]

Panzacola

Already a winner in France her US debut at Gulfstream today was also a winning one.  Joel Rosario did a good job as Mrs. de Tomaso had given strict instructions not to hit her behind the saddle or she will swerve and stop, which she did many times in Italy.  She was on the bridle […]

Head Games

Having raced mainly on the turf unless it was a race taken off when she ran on the main track Head Games has been a grinder, not always in the winners circle but also not quite getting there.  Today it was different.  Dirt race over one mile and one eighth and grinding worked!!  She’s a […]

Sherini

Not having raced since September of 2016 Sherini put up an impressive performance today in her come back race at Laurel today.  She’s a half sister to Shackleford and has shown promise in her previous races including a win at Saratoga, so this was a very welcome result.  Congratulations to My Meadowview LLC.

Live Large

Live Large lived up to her name today although she is small!  She’s by a freshman Tapit stallion called Rattlesnake Bridge who many may not have heard of yet but if he breeds tough horses like her they soon will.   The reason I say tough is she was in front and was passed by a […]
