The Captain, as he was strangely known here (!) is a beautiful big black horse but didn’t really cut it on the racetrack. He did however race twenty times, winning one race. He was owned in a partnership with Olympic rider Phillip Dutton and came to us as a three year old from Ireland. Along the way he had to have a screw in his hind ankle which precluded him from three day eventing but everyone thought he’d made a terrific hunter so when the time came for him to retire Phillip’s neighbor Jennifer Jones Arms was delighted to get him as her hunting prospect with the famed Cheshire Hunt. He got on the van like a pro with a pony friend waiting for him and he’s doing very well in his lessons. The photo below was taken a couple of days after Jennifer got him, first time riding him and she said he was perfect – of course!!
