Better Than Bonds

Competed in his very first horse show today since being retired last year.  Pat Dale of Conowingo showed him at the Horse Park in New Jersey in an unrated schooling class for green hunters and he finished as reserve champion!!!  He was so well behaved and acted like a seasoned pro and nobody could believe […]

Well done

Rcuandry, running for Graham for the first time won quite impressively at Gulfstream Park yesterday over a trip she obviously relished, one mile and a half.  She’s a half sister to Honey Ryder so the longer the better!!  Many congratulations to the owners Keene Ridge Racing, LLC.

2009 Herringswell Awards

{jcomments on}With another Eclipse Awards ceremony behind us, it is now time to distribute our 2009 Herringswell Awards. Please note, that ‘The Herringswells’ are not actual trophies, they are given out strictly for bragging rights around the barn. Jockey Of The Year: Winner: Jeremy Rose, unanimous. Rose, of Icabad Crane fame, captured stakes aboard Bullsbay, […]

No Match!

I expect everyone watched last night’s Eclipse awards with interest, especially the end part!  First of all, many congratulations to Jonathan Sheppard being the first trainer to win awards for both jumping and flat horses in the same year (nobody seemed to mention that).   He gave the best speech too!  Secondly, the debate seemed to be fuelled again as […]

Smart Man!

Smart Bid kicked off 2010 with an amazing second in the San Fernando Stakes (Grade II) at Santa Anita, beaten only by Papa Clem who was on the Derby trail last year!  Interestingly, they are both by Smart Strike.  Smart Bid ran against Papa Clem in his last start over 7f but the extra distance […]

Third time lucky

Caesar’s Gold made it three times a charm today at Philaldelphia Park winning on his third try.  This flashy Roman Ruler colt was up with the pace and drew away to win by 2 1/2 lengths.  Congratulations to Marathon Farm.

Immortal Seabiscuit

Brent Johnson looking for his new Better Talk Now.  Little late for this one Brent! Speaking of his great horse, Better Talk Now is thoroughly enjoying his retirement at the Fair Hill Training Center, getting turned out every day with Gala Spinaway who turned 22 this year! They both love to come in on the […]

Smart Bid Returns To Route

{jcomments on}In April, Smart Bid looked like a contender for the 1 1/4 miles Grade I Secretariat at Arlington Park after his slowly-gaining second place finish in the G III Transylvania Stakes at Keeneland. After the Transylvania, the 3-year-old Smart Strike runner missed seven months because of a bone chip in his ankle. Kiss the […]

Keg Of Dynamite

{jcomments on}We had a 5 year old gray filly stabled at our barn yesterday while she waited for a Sallee van to take her to Kentucky.  They kindly donated a trip as she was on her way to her final home, the Thoroughbred Retirement Center, Old Friends.  Her story thankfully has a happy ending but […]

Turf Melody: Trunk Always Packed

Delaware Park. Colonial Downs. Arlington Park. Woodbine. Keeneland. Laurel. Remington Park. Sounds like a list of random racetracks to anyone if read aloud. If you ask anyone close to Turf Melody, they will tell you its a listing of tracks the young 3-year-old has visited in his first seven starts. The Maria’s Mon colt looks to make […]
