Although beautifully bred, by Animal Kingdom out of the super mare Mesa Fresca, and being a half brother to the multiple Stakes winning mare Harmonize, Call Me Bill didn’t get the fast gene! His lovely owner Jack Swain, Jr. does not believe in pushing the boat if it doesn’t want to sail so we put him up for adoption and it just so happened that Hillary Irwin who has had about three horses from us previously and who we know very well, happened to be looking for another to bring on to be hopefully an upper grade three day eventer. Off he went to Florida where she is during the winter and already he seems to have settled in like he has always been there.
Poor Hillary – she loves her horses so much.
Hi Sue,
When I went to catch Bill on Saturday morning he was playing as usual, it was really cold and frosty. He slipped on the frost in the middle of his field and broke his shoulder. We tried to get as many opinions as we could, but at the end of it, the consensus was his best hope was to be 1:5 sound at the walk and live a few years until the mobility got too bad and we would have to put him down (that’s if he even made it past the first month in a stall). So, we made the humane decision to not put him through that. I am devastated, but hope I did right by him.
I am so sorry.
Hillary
