Dr. Brendler 1998

‘Doc’ as he was fondly called while he was here was in training here during ‘Blackie’s’ (Better Talk Now’s) time was a really good racehorse in his own right but he was often over-shadowed by his stable mate.   His major claims to fame though was when he won the Grade 2 Dixie Stakes on Preakness Day in 2003 and and was subsequently third in the Grade 1 Manhattan and second in the Stars And Stripes, Grade 3 at Arlington, which he did all in the space of eight weeks.

When he was retired at the age of 6 Leigh Delacour’s father was looking for a hunter.  Leigh was working for us at the time and thought he’d suit him well and he had many years of fox hunting on him.

Leigh’s father eventually sold him on to friend George where his is still hunting at the age of 21 (2019).  Below are some cute photos that Leigh’s father received that he passed on to us:

“I was sent some pictures of Doc from the last couple of years packing around George, the man who bought him, and his grandson. Doc is now 21 and still enjoying hunting mildly. George has super bad knees and needed something safe to lead the second field”.
